I really enjoyed this book. I failed to grasp the key to what was going to be an explanation of the Alien Agenda that was promised by the title. The author did a lot of homework for this book, well done.
This is the single greatest book on UFO history ever written. Well researched and written, Jim Marrs leaves no stone unturned in this thriller. I am a fan of his other writings Rule of Secrecy, Terror Conspiracy and Rise of the Fourth Reich but the Alien Agenda is by far the scariest and my favorite. If you desire the truth you need to read Jim Marrs.
However Mr Marrs does manage to explain every oddball UFO story no matter how weird with some sort of conspiracy theory. Some events are interesting because they have never been completely explained due to a lack of examinable evidence. Even the delusional George Adamski, famous for his alien abduction stories and amateurish UFO paste up photographs are explained away as a government plant. Alternating between laughter and disbelief, I read as much of Mr Marrs' patchwork of every UFO story ever told as much as I could.
But when I discovered that Mr Marrs was also the author of other conspiracy books including 'Crossfire' (JFK conspiracy), 'Terror Conspiracy' (9/11 conspiracy), 'Above Top Secret' (many many other conspiracies) , and others, my skeptic radar flipped on. I thought it might be interesting. And others are truly weird such as the story of the hollow moon, planets in collision, faces on Mars, and secret alien control of the government. Early reported details are often inaccurate.
If they knew her, a reader would look at the misspelling, recognize it as an error and ignore it. Others are beyond belief and fall into the category of 'only a UFO nut' would accept. All of them are told with an uncritical wide-eyed enthusiasm by Mr Marrs who definitely is not a good researcher nor a good writer.The author assembles his facts haphazardly from discredited theories, erroneous reporting, and hearsay. A journalist he is not. Positive comments caused me to try this book out.
For example, when my daughter was young, her name and photo was printed in the newspaper but her name was misspelled. This error was never corrected, nor was it necessary to do so. Mr Marrs would look at the error in spelling and conclude that the photo could not possibly be my daughter because the name was wrong, therefore, the person in the photo must be a pod person alien substitute. A conspiracy theory is born. Let me explain the author's basic technique of evidence:Published information is often filled with errors. 'Alien Agenda' is a mishmash of UFO stories and conspiracy theories. Nothing is left out or unexplained from the past 50 years of UFO mythology that has been built up by wrong factual details, poor research, and unsupported hearsay.
How Book List could give this book a positive review is incredible. Newspapers are notorious for getting the facts wrong on the first writing. Little space is devoted to serious discussion on the possibility of interstellar travel, visitations, astrophysics, or exobiology. This book reminds me of an old joke -A cheating wife is caught with her paramour in flagrante delicto and tells her husband that she wasn't cheating and adds "who are you going to believe, me, or your lying eyes"Mr Marrs is that cheating wife.
Most of us will never see a UFO. And he probably doesn't either. But it doesn't all have to be true. A million years. ABSO-DAMN-LUTELY.
Remember the know-it-all arrogance we all had as teenagers. Once you've taken that step you have opened your mind to having a rational dialogue on the topic.Be a THINKING PERSON. Imagine what a civilization just a mere 300 years more advanced than ours could be capable of. How about a civilization 1000 years more advanced.
At one point we were convinced the Earth was flat. 300 years is NOTHING - a fraction of a blink of Time's evolutionary eye. We've been sending probes to other planets for decades. But we KNEW it.
You still don't know everything. Whether you believe in UFOs or not, you have to give some thought to the statistics. They may come and go all day long but most of us will never see them. I don't care if you are the most educated know-it-all in the world. The point is that they CAN and DO withhold all kinds of info from us in the interest of maintaining a certain status quo and societal balance, not to mention to preserve a sense of perceived "national identity" and image.
We can't make an uninterrupted search of every square mile of the skies at the same time at all times. It would be foolish for the government to tell us everything because, in all truth, we couldn't handle it. But you probably have to believe that it is POSSIBLE there are UFOs. Turns out we were wrong. But we are right and duty-bound to ask questions. Again, a blink of an eye on the universal perspective.I don't believe for one minute that everything in Marrs' book is or can be true.
It's a big sky. But it makes one stand in awe of the sheer volume of it all.We all believe in traffic accidents but most of us have never seen one as it happened. It's the wrong argument. 10,000 years. You don't know as much as you think you do and you CERTAINLY don't know everything. "50,000,000 Elvis fans can't be wrong", as the album title states.
We were SO SURE we had been right. Given the volume of UFO reports throughout modern history, the extensive field work, the thousands upon thousands of supposed sightings and events, the number of trained debunkers who have converted and become believers, and the testimony of such a great number of credible eyewitnesses, statistically speaking it is highly unlikely that ALL of them are bogus, hoaxes, or terrestrial in origin.That said, Marrs' book covers a lot of ground in a great many aspects of Ufology, from alien bases on the moon to government cover-ups to multiple eyewitness accounts to abduction stories and everything in between. We've conquered scientific frontiers that would have been considered unthinkable just 50 years ago. It is not in anyone's best interests to see the public go berserk. That's the important first step.
There is no statistical chance that EACH AND EVERY ONE of the accounts detailed in this book (or the endless list of others from across the globe and across the centuries) can be chalked up to "swamp gas", "cloud reflections", or "fanciful hoaxing". The book looks to be very meticulously researched and footnoted, but I haven't taken the time to fact-check his facts. You can't ignore the sheer numbers.Read the book. Just part of it is enough. WE KNEW IT. That's about the only thing we can do to keep things in check.You don't have to believe in UFOs. Throughout history, mankind presumed it was living in its "modern" era.
Whether you believe the government is withholding UFO info from us is not the point. Nor could I, in most cases. That's the difference between Belief and Truth. You have to open it first.
The section on remote viewing is particularly fascinating.Just because we live in a modern, high-tech, scientifically sophisticated society doesn't mean we know everything. We thought we knew everything and when we grew older we realized we didn't. Well, don't stop growing up. Social Order is a relatively fragile yet combustible phenomenon. Many of the things we "know" are really just things we believe. Are there things our governments don't want us to know (and not just about UFOs). Imagine what else we will find that we have been wrong about as time marches on.Why is the thought of a species visiting another planet so outlandish. The truth may be something else entirely.Okay, enough sermonizing.
We can't be looking in all directions at once in the hopes of catching an event as it happens. So don't use the "well, I'VE never seen one" argument when it comes to UFOs. You probably really only know what you have been taught or what you have been taught to take on faith. But you should never make up your mind about anything while your mind is closed.
The presentation of UFOs in this book is NOT: Dear reader, please forget you are on planet earth and suspend disbelief for a few days while you read this fantasy book. This is not a work of the devil and anybody with an once of independence can make up his or her own mind after reading it. Alien Agenda is a very well-crafted book of 656 pages (mass market paperback edition) which weaves relevant social factors into the UFO evidence starting thousands of years ago to the present. The author also makes sense of conspiracy theories and explains quite rationally what a "conspiracy" actually is and whether we all need to be paranoid or not and does it in a very objective manner. The Appendix has some pages partially borrowed from one of the author's other books on the banking system and the world financial system and how the real "masters of the universe" likely are concerned about any alien influences. The book is exceedingly well researched with 48 pages of solid references from quotes and documents by political, military, scientific and financial leaders. The last chapters provide some incite on this subject if the reader is willing to get rid of certain personal mind sets regarding our importance in the cosmos, religious assumptions, etc.
One mind set is that the whole thing can be explained by natural phenomena. It explains in very easy to understand detail how the possibility of extraterrestrial life is relevant to how the world has progressed as a whole. The word "mind set" comes up a lot in Alien Agenda. It ties in the proceedings of the last few thousand years to the present as a planet very much influenced by an alien presence whether we are aware of it or not. Some people try to rationalize the idea by saying to themselves that "aliens would not come to this planet," "why don't they show themselves," "they would have conquered us by now," "there is no tangible proof," etc. Another is that a single race of little green men are visiting us from Alpha Centuri, traveling 5 light years every other day.NOT. Some reality training can be had by reading this and his other book, Rule By Secrecy regarding who really rules the world (hint: The Golden Rule: those that have the gold make the rules) and how the world financial system is mostly faith, smoke and mirrors.
